Tory adviser proposes to dock benefits of parents

Issue No. 2299

Government “behaviour tsar” Charlie Taylor has recommended that some parents of children who miss school should have their child benefit docked.

Fining parents won’t stop children playing truant and will make the problems that often lie behind truancy worse.

So who is the expert who came up with the idea? Charlie Taylor is a former Eton boy and now head teacher at Willows primary school in London.

He likes to brag about how he got the job despite having no credentials. After he “got bored” educating parents about bad behaviour he decided to apply for the post.

“I had no credentials,” he said, “but I thought, ‘fuck it, I’ll just go for it’.”

Taylor charmingly described his school as a “war zone” and a “zoo”—and called one school he worked in a “shit hole”.
