Court victory for Zimbabwe Six

Issue No. 2299

Six Zimbabwean socialists have won a high court appeal against their sentences of community service.

They were convicted last month after watching news footage of the Arab Spring at a meeting organised by the International Socialist Organisation in February 2011.

They are appealing against their conviction for “conspiracy to commit acts of public violence”. Each was given a £310 fine and sentenced to 420 hours of community service.

The new ruling means that the community service is suspended pending the main appeal. It has not been dismissed and will be reinstated if the six lose their appeal.
