Over 1,000 anti-racists took to the streets of Brighton last Sunday. They succeeded in reducing a far right march to a miserable and defeated mob that needed a heavy police escort to get out of town.

For five years a far right group with links to the EDL, March for England, has used St George’s Day as a justification for a “patriotic” march.

But this year opposition was so strong that police protection was the only way the 100 racist scum could move at all.

Anti-fascist groups in Brighton built a spirit of opposition throughout the city. On the day, experienced campaigners were by far outnumbered by ordinary residents of the city.

Now the sense of jubilation in Brighton has served to double the resolve to be in Luton on 5 May.
