We need a stronger fight against cuts, Unison delegates say

Delegates heard heartbreaking stories about staff shortages, stressed workers and attacks from bosses at the Unison union’s health conference last week.

One delegate spoke of his A&E department being constantly short of stock and supplies. He said that workers were bringing in supplies themselves.

Another delegate disagreed with Unison general secretary Dave Prentis who had said that “out of every 100 jobs going even if we save 20 it’s a victory”.

Workers were clearly up for a fight. A statement announced near the end of conference that a joint TUC anti-cuts rally will take place this year lifted delegates’ spirits.
