Superyacht? There’s an app for that, sir

Issue No. 2301

Like any discerning fat cat, you no doubt love your yachts. But isn’t it a pain having all those deckhands hanging around?

Help is at hand. The futuristic £15 million superyacht Adastra claims to do away with the need for staff—by replacing them with an iPad.

The 42.5 metre yacht, complete with onboard bar, can be driven from up to 50 metres away using the gadget.

Other yacht owners are reportedly planning their next move in the escalating superyacht wars.

Of course, there are some purposes for which a yacht is essential.

At the Leveson inquiry Rupert Murdoch was asked about a meeting he hosted with David Cameron on his family yacht in 2008.

'That's part of the democratic process,' he replied.

Not all things at sea are so happy, though. Some staff on P&O cruises earn as little as 75p hour—and now they face losing their tips.

Boss David Dingle defended the poverty wages, calling it 'great money' for the 11-hour days.
