Workers in the NUJ, Bectu and Unite unions are all balloting for strikes at the BBC.
The ballot is over pay, a new appraisal system and compulsory redundancies caused by management’s failure to keep to an agreement on redeployment.
All three unions are calling for a yes vote. The ballot closes on 21 May. Strikes could disrupt coverage of the queen’s jubilee.
MMP campaign for justice continues
Workers who were locked out and sacked by Meyr Melnhof Packaging (MMP) in Bootle, Merseyside, continue their fight for justice.
The Unite union members and their supporters have been protesting outside the firm’s clients.
Last week a delegation protested at MMP’s shareholders meeting in Austria. Targets this week include Kellogg’s cereals and Waitrose supermarkets.
Ballot for Kirklees council workers
Some 450 admin workers in the Unison union at Kirklees council in West Yorkshire are being balloted for industrial action.
The council has threatened 100 redundancies. The ballot result is due next Friday.
Meanwhile home care workers in Kirklees Council have voted by 177 to four in a consultative ballot to strike against privatisation.
They have requested an industrial action ballot.
Workers fuming over unfair charge
Over 270 workers at Imperial Tobacco in Nottingham began a work to rule on Monday of this week.
Nottingham City council has imposed a parking levy on employers that provide workplace parking—but Imperial bosses have passed the cost onto their staff.
The workers are in the Unite union.
Strike vote at Ford over pension attack
The Unite union is set to ballot car workers at Ford over plans to close the final salary pension scheme to new entrants. The union says this would lead to further attacks.
Meanwhile Unite members at BMW in Oxford were set to vote on a new pay offer. They rejected a below-inflation offer last month.
