This week’s Socialist Worker looks somewhat different to previous issues. From now on the paper will have 20 full colour redesigned pages.
We've done this because we want to increase the readership of the paper. Two years into this Tory government, we believe there is a growing audience for a newspaper offering a socialist alternative.
Socialist Worker isn’t like mainstream newspapers.
Bosses of capitalist papers like to pretend that they are neutral. They claim to be “balanced” and “objective” in their reporting.
But in reality they reflect our rulers’ view of the world.
That’s why they attack workers when they strike and students when they protest.
That’s why so many papers carry racist articles that scapegoat immigrants for the problems ordinary people face—or blame “lazy” workers for the recession.
Socialist Worker doesn’t pretend to be neutral.
We stand firmly on the side of ordinary people against the rich and the bosses. We spread news of resistance and expose the lies of the powerful.
We intervene in class struggle by arming readers with the arguments they need to fight for a strategy that can win.
Socialist Worker isn’t part of the corrupt network of media moguls, politicians and police that dominates the capitalist media. We don’t belong to big business or the rich.
Socialist Worker is your paper—and we want to hear your stories. So if you want to know what Rupert Murdoch thinks, read the Sun. If you want to know what workers think, read Socialist Worker.
