Socialist Worker

Stop Search

Directed by Dominic Taylor, Broadway Theatre, London SE6 4RU, until 26 May

Issue No. 2302

This play charts the impact of stop and search on young black people and looks at how the policy shapes their attitudes to the police.

Its director Dominic Taylor used to work for the Ministry of Justice. The Metropolitan Police and senior civil servants put pressure on him to make the play more “positive” about the police.

Thankfully Taylor refused to bow to this pressure. Stop Search is shocking, well produced and definitely worth seeing.
