Chesterfield lecturers vote to strike

Issue No. 2302

Chesterfield College lecturers have voted for strikes to defend jobs and pay.

Some 88 percent backed strikes in the ballot. Their UCU union should announce a date for action this week.

College bosses want to make 39 teaching staff redundant by the end of the academic year.

Workers say management are also ignoring nationally agreed pay scales by capping lecturers’ salaries at a rate £5,000 lower than the national average.
