Tens of thousands flock to London for Social Forum

WELCOME TO the European Social Forum, and welcome to the new-look Socialist Worker. To readers old and new, we hope you like the new design and, more importantly, the new content!

With over 15,000 advance registrations, the ESF is set to be a huge event which could shape the movement in the coming months.

Socialist Worker will be appearing daily during the ESF. Contributors will include Peter Doherty, Arundhati Roy, Susan George, Gillo Pontecorvo, Salma Yaqoob and many more. Just as important is our team of volunteer journalists, who will be talking to people at the ESF, and reporting the discussions and cultural events.

The ESF in Florence two years ago was the launchpad for the global demonstration on 15 February 2003 against the attack on Iraq. Across the world 36 million people demonstrated in the first months of last year.

Enjoy the ESF. But, as well as joining in the discussion, let’s also come together to plan united action. And, if we only decide one thing, let’s issue a call for an international day of protest against the occupation of Iraq.

If you enjoy Socialist Worker, please consider giving to our annual appeal to make sure we can maintain and develop our online and print versions of Socialist Worker. Go here for details and to donate.
