Climate activists are touring Britain with the Caravan for a Million Climate Jobs. Some 30 people attended the caravan’s meeting in Leeds last week, with a similar number turning out in Derby.
The Derby rally involved former Bombardier train factory workers making the green case for public transport.
The caravan also visited the TSSA rail workers’ union conference in Cardiff. The conference voted to support the climate jobs campaign.
Other places visited by the caravan last week included Huddersfield, Norwich, Birmingham and Sheffield.
In Huddersfield the caravan was greeted by Labour, Green and independent councillors.
This week the caravan concludes its tour with meetings in Manchester and London on Friday.
One focus for the week will be on opposing “fracking”, an environmentally destructive gas drilling technique, in towns such as Lancaster, Blackpool, Brighton and Redhill.
