Baggage handlers in spirited strike at Stansted

by Andrew Osborne
Issue No. 2305

Around 20 workers joined the picket line at Stansted airport last Saturday and they were in good spirits.

The walkout was the Swissport baggage handlers’ second day of action. The Unite and GMB union members struck on Wednesday of last week too.

They plan to strike for four days from Friday of this week—hitting the jubilee bank holiday.

The dispute is over changes to rosters which will mean they have to work an extra 14 days a year, as well as attacks on their holiday entitlements. Workers say they were told to accept the changes or face redundancy.

Some plane operators, such as Ryanair, flew in scab baggage handlers last week.
