Diamonds are the queen's best friend

Issue No. 2305

Diamond giant De Beers has produced a crown for the jubilee—studded with 974 diamonds.

The centrepiece is a huge 73 carat diamond, suspended above a diamond-studded sphere.

But if your budget doesn’t quite stretch that far, you could try the QVC “diamonique” version.

It is set to be auctioned. But even this knock-off has been valued at £10,528.

Not enough diamonds for you? How about the holographic portrait of the queen—which features a crown encrusted with more than 1,000 diamonds.

The crown “sits” on her maj’s holographic head, and took more than a year to make from over 10,000 images.

It seems not everyone’s so keen to hang around for the weekend of pageantry.

Travel agents report a surge in demand for holidays abroad over the jubilee weekend.

People apparently don’t want “staycations”—but are booking up to go to Tunisia and Egypt.
