Royalist cafe: stand for the anthem or no tea for you

Issue No. 2305

The owner of a royalty‑themed tearoom threw out three people when they refused to stand for the national anthem.

Fervent monarchist Anita Atkinson runs Royal Teas in Durham. Every day at 3pm she plays the national anthem and tells customers to stand.

The tearoom even has royal paraphernalia in the toilets. It gives a new meaning to “sitting on the throne”.
