Tax credit cut hits workers

Issue No. 2307

Shop workers could be better off on the dole because of tax credit changes brought in by the Tory government.

Couples earning less than £18,000 a year must increase their working hours from a minimum of 16 hours a week to 24 hours. If they don’t they will lose their working tax credit of over £70 a week.

One in five GMB members believed the changes would force them on to the dole because work would not be worthwhile.
