Tyne & Wear train cleaners' strikes planned this weekend

Tyne & Wear cleaners were set to strike over pay on Friday of this week.

Churchill Cleaning bosses have tried to freeze pay for the RMT union members, who are on the minimum wage.

Pay for the firm’s highest paid boss has soared by 18 percent over the past five years while the company’s profits doubled.

Transpennine Express cleaners working for Carlisle Cleaning and Support Services were set to strike on Saturday to defend pay and conditions.

They plan to hold an overtime and rest day working ban for six days from Monday of next week.

RMT union members on Southern Trains have voted to accept the firm’s Olympic pay offer.
