Demonstrators gathered opposite Downing Street in London today (Saturday) in solidarity with the wave of revolt in Sudan.
They called for the release of political detainees, especially women, and for peace and justice in Sudan.
The demonstration raised the cases of detainees such as Jaleela Khamees and Alawiyya Kibaida who have been detained by the regime for months.
Sudan's dictator Omar al-Bashir has threatened the protesters rising up against his plans for subsidy cuts that would double the price of food and fuel.
'They speak about the Arab Spring. I should say that we in Sudan have an incinerating summer, which will burn down all of its enemies,' he said.
A victory for the Sudanese revolution against the Bashir regime would be an inspiring example of revolt spreading across the region.
