PROTESTERS FOR a living wage defied bosses at Canary Wharf yesterday.
The anti-capitalist group Globalise Resistance protested to demand freedom of speech and the right to demonstrate, this was despite an injunction obtained by bosses to prevent the TGWU union, which represents the cleaners, marching.
Film director Ken Loach, screenwriter Paul Laverty and local Respect councillor Oliur Rahman addressed a rally at the end of the march.
Still fighting for liberation
AHMED BEN Bella, leader of the Algerian resistance to French colonialism, introduced a showing of the film The Battle Of Algiers last night.
Speaking on his 88th birthday, Ahmed Ben Bella said he was very touched to see the big turn out for the event.
He said, “The fight then was for the liberation of Algeria from the French. Now it is for the liberation of the world from globalisation.”
He explained that the film was made to awaken people’s political consciousness and contribute to the struggle against imperialism.
