Fukushima firm lies on radiation

Bosses at a firm cleaning up the stricken Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan tried to cover up radiation levels beyond the legal limit.

They instructed workers to put lead cases on machines measuring radiation levels. But workers recorded their bosses and exposed them.


Rail firm on track for profit

Private train firm FirstGroup could extend its Great Western contract, grabbing a multi-million pound state subsidy.

That’s despite the company serving notice on its previous contract to avoid paying the government more than £800?million.


Tory has plenty of cash in hand

Tory Minister David Gauke denounced plumbers who are paid cash in hand as immoral for avoiding tax.

But in 2006–7, Gauke used parliamentary expenses to make us pay for his stamp duty payments when he moved house. He also claimed £10,248 in mortgage payments.


Renewables blown away

The Tories plan to give land owners powers to block the building of wind turbines in order to keep property prices high.

George Osborne also plans to cut subsidies for wind farms. So much for the greenest government ever.
