Saturday strikes to hit Stagecoach

Winchester coach drivers at Stagecoach were set to hold two 24-hour strikes from 6am on Saturday of this week and next. The workers, in the RMT union, voted to strike over pay and conditions.

Transport for London

Several groups of Transport for London (TfL) workers were set to strike on Friday of this week. The action is to demand an Olympic pay bonus.

The workers’ RMT union had originally suspended a planned strike set for last weekend.

Tyne and Wear Metro

Workers at Tyne and Wear Metro were set to strike for 48 hours from Sunday over pay and conditions. Bosses at the Churchill firm have tried to impose a pay freeze on the RMT members who are on the minimum wage.

Eurotunnel

Drivers on the Eurotunnel are balloting for strikes to defend a sacked worker who had cancer. Ray Field was the workers’ Unite union rep at Eurotunnel for 15 years. The ballot ends on Thursday of this week.

Portsmouth harbour

Unite union members at Portsmouth International Port are voting on a deal in a dispute over contracts.

The union suspended industrial action while the consultative ballot takes place. The result should be out on Friday of this week.

Northlink ferries

The RMT union has ended its dispute with Serco Northlink Ferries near the Shetland Isles. A strike ballot was due to close next week.

The union says that the firm has given assurances over pensions, place of work and staffing levels.
