There's no plain sailing for tax dodger Philip Green

Issue No. 2315

Billionaire tax dodger Philip Green, holidaying on the Greek island of Skiathos, found his multimillion pound yacht picketed last week.

My partner and I spotted him and questioned him about why he hadn’t paid his tax. We returned later with handmade placards explaining that he owes £285 million and that this would pay for 20,000 nurses.

Green hurled abuse from the yacht’s deck. He repeatedly ordered his crew to “hose the morons down”, but to no avail.

A crowd of around 50 had gathered by the time the local mayor turned up. He asked us to move to the end of the pier as the jetty was private property.

This incensed the Greek members of the crowd who stood and argued volubly with him, one spitting in his face.

The port authority police then arrived. In front of the continuing protests by holidaymakers from all over the world they escorted us to the port office.

When a Greek holidaymaker asked what offence we had committed, one port police officer claimed we were an “international security threat”—causing much laughter among those who had gathered.

We were immediately released without charge and Green’s yacht sailed off the next morning.
