Students and lecturers discuss plans to fight against cuts

Issue No. 2327

More than 150 students and lecturers participated in this year’s Education Activist Network Conference at SOAS last Sunday.

The conference brought together activists from local industrial disputes such as Queen Mary’s and the University of East London.

There were international students from London Metropolitan University facing deportation and those from Sussex faced with a 13 percent fee hike.

Participants debated and decided on taking action in the run-up to the national demonstration on 21 November.

The conference called for lunchtime demonstrations on campuses to coincide with the strikes in Europe on 14 November.

It also decided to demand that NUS call a day of walkouts for 5 December when chancellor George Osborne announces his autumn budget.
