Mirror caught hacking phones

Police have evidence that a senior Mirror newspaper group executive regularly paid a private investigations firm for mobile phone numbers and PIN access codes.

This is thought to have happened at least two years before phone hacking became routine at the News of the World.

Builder dies on London site

A builder fell to his death when scaffolding collapsed on Monday of this week. He landed on two co-workers.

The accident—one of three with 24 hours in London—happened at Putney. Three construction workers were in hospital in critical condition as a result of the accidents as Socialist Worker went to press.

Rape unit cop is found guilty

Former Scotland Yard detective Ryan Coleman-Farrow has been jailed for 16 months. He worked for the specialist rape unit Sapphire.

He admitted in court that he lied to victims, falsified paperwork and held back forensic evidence.

Trident sucks up £700 million

The design of new submarines to carry Britain’s Trident nuclear warheads will cost £350 million. In total, £700 million will be spent on the deadly weapons this year alone.
