Students set to march against cuts in London on 21 November

Issue No. 2328

Students across Britain are gearing up to take to the streets of London on Wednesday 21 November against the coalition’s attack on education.

The National Union of Students (NUS) has called the national protest after coming under pressure from activists who want to fight back.

Emily, a student from Essex university, said, “I’ve been really surprised how angry first years are. The increased fees are really hitting people hard. My family had to make sacrifices to get me to university. When did David Cameron ever have to make sacrifices?”

Students are building local groups and organising committees and putting pressure on their local student unions to build the demonstration. In Bristol, students and sabbatical officers are working together to fill coaches.

But in Cardiff students had to fight for a motion in a general meeting to force the student union officials to put their weight behind the demonstration. Every student should be on the streets on 21 November—and their lecturers should be there with them.
