DWP staff vote to strike

Issue No. 2336

Staff in the PCS union at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) have voted for strikes over compulsory redundancies and cuts.

Some 65 percent voted for walkouts and 83 percent for action short of a strike.

Activists were hoping to strike on 21 January, but the deadline to give seven days notice to strike on that day has now passed.

Steve West is on the union’s DWP group executive.“The vote clearly shows that when given a lead members are more than willing to strike”, he said in a personal capacity. The union has told members that talks are going well.

Meanwhile DWP sites in Cumbria, Leeds and Rochdale have been marked for closure.
