PCS union ballots for new strikes

by Siân Ruddick
Issue No. 2337

The PCS civil service workers’ union is to ballot some 250,000 workers next month.

The union’s membership has been hit hard by huge job cuts and pay freezes.

Staff are struggling to keep up with the work load.

The government has also attacked pension age and contributions for public sector workers.

The union is demanding that the government stops the attacks.

It also wants a 5 percent pay increase instead of the imposed pay freeze and that the living wage underpins all government pay proposals.

This ballot will take the place of the 2011 mandate over pensions, pay and conditions.

It’s vital that PCS members use this to reinvigorate the fight against the Tory assault.

Civil service workers know that they have a fight on their hands. The strike ballot starts on Friday 8 February.
