Stafford health disaster could happen again

Issue No. 2340

The public inquiry into the disaster at the Mid Staffordshire NHS foundation trust made 290 recommendations.

But health secretary Jeremy Hunt has refused to say whether he will implement any of them.

Another disaster such as that seen in Staffordshire could easily happen again.

The Tories are pushing policies that make this more likely.

The government is determined to cut jobs, wages and sell off valuable NHS buildings to save

£20 billion by 2015.

Its ultimate aim is to break up the NHS and hand it to private companies.

Firms will then look for even more ways to cut corners and make “savings”.

But Staffordshire shows the dangers of trying to care for people with too few staff and not enough resources.
