Thousands set to march

Issue No. 2341

Keir McKechnie is helping to mobilise people for the weekend of action in Scotland starting on 13 April.

He told Socialist Worker, “The question of Trident in Scotland is particularly important because of the referendum in 2014 on independence.

“We want to put Trident at the centre of the debate. “Not only because it is a huge waste of money but because Alex Salmond and his Scottish National Party have abandoned their commitment to leave Nato.

“So how will they be able to stand by their commitment to scrap Trident in an independent Scotland?

“There is a debate in the unions in Scotland about independence.

“We say, regardless of your views on independence you should march against Trident. If you’re against austerity, you’re against Trident.

“We’re expecting thousands on the march.

“We have built a coalition of peace groups and political parties and the unions are starting to get on board.”
