Supporters of Unite Against Fascism (UAF) protested on against French fascist leader Marine Le Pen on Tuesday of this week.

The Cambridge Union Society invited her to speak there. It has invited Nazis to speak before, including Nick Griffin of the British National Party.

It argues that this is a question of free speech.

But fascists use any platform they are given to build their movement.

If allowed to grow, they can smash all democracy and working class organisation. That’s why UAF argues for Nazis to be given no platform to spread their lies.

Anti-fascists were gathering outside the Union building as Socialist Worker went to press.

Cambridge UAF is also preparing for a march next Saturday against the racist thugs of the English Defence league.

The EDL had planned to march, but in the face of united local opposition it downgraded this to a static rally. The counter demonstration is supported by the trades council and local mosques.

A handful of EDL thugs tried to march in Berwick, north east England, on Saturday of last week.

Some 200 anti-fascists, including members of the PCS, RMT and Unite unions, blocked their route. Campaigners held “Nee Nazis in Berwick” placards.

Nazi punk band IC1 was driven out of east London last weekend. UAF had called a protest outside and the venue’s management cancelled after being deluged with complaints.
