Management at London Metropolitan University have stepped up their witch hunt of union activists.
Bosses there suspended professor Steve Jefferys, a member of the UCU union, on Wednesday of last week.
This follows the suspension of Unison chair Max Watson and Palestinian Jawad Botmeh, the elected staff governor, on 7 February.
Steve has been suspended for “potential gross misconduct”.
He had agreed, five years ago, that Jawad should have the opportunity of being interviewed for a part time admin post.
Jawad has a criminal record which the university was aware of.
He was found guilty of conspiracy to cause explosions in 1996 and sentenced to 20 years in prison, of which he served 13.
Jawad denied the charges. Socialist Worker and others have argued that Jawad was wrongly convicted.
Workers and students are organising to defend the three suspended workers. More than 1,300 people signed a petition to defend the three within days.
Students, trade unionists and others have already organised several protests at London Met to defend the suspended workers.
Activists are organising a public meeting for Tuesday of next week to plan the next steps in the campaign.
