Defend council horses in Cardiff

More than 200 trade unionists and others protested outside Cardiff city council on Thursday of last week.

Volunteers from the council-run riding school brought one of their horses to protest against privatisation.

Pupils and parents from a schools music service facing cuts played hymns.

300 tackle Hull councillors

Around 300 council workers and local campaigners protested outside the council budget meeting last Thursday.

Three Labour councillors voted against the budget cuts and addressed a meeting of 75 people afterwards.

Cremation costs more in Sefton

Some 50 demonstrators delayed councillors in Sefton, Merseyside, for an hour on Thursday of last week.

Councillors voted to increase the price of burials and cremations, but delayed plans to close libraries and cut social care.

Lord Freud visited Wigan to drum up support for the bedroom tax last Friday.

He was scheduled to visit the Job Centre but protesters outside forced a change of plan. He ended up being chased through town.

Secret entrance for Brum vote

Councillors in Birmingham had to be smuggled into the town hall through secret back doors as scores of protesters outside blockaded the main entrance.

Once inside they were interrupted by protesters, and had the public gallery cleared before voting for £100 million worth of cuts.

Cuts won’t wash say occupiers

Dozens of protesters—including young children—occupied Levenshulme baths in south Manchester on Friday evening of last week.
