Children face strip searches

Children were made to strip naked 43,960 times in 25 young offender institutions, children’s homes and training centres in the 21 months to December 2012.

Nearly half—48 percent—were black or from another ethnic minority. Physical force was used on children being searched 50 times.

Homeless man froze to death

Daniel Gauntlett, a homeless man, froze to death outside an empty bungalow last month.

Police had reportedly been called previously after he tried to enter into the bungalow.

He obeyed the law and stayed out of the house—and died of hypothermia.

Tories push secret courts

The government pushed through its plans for secret court hearings on Monday of this week.

It will allow for evidence from spies and police informers as well as evidence taken through surveillance to be heard away from public scrutiny.

The bill now goes to the House of Lords.

Live in Britain and die earlier

People in Britain are more likely to die early than people in most wealthy nations, according to new research.

The Public Health England and the Global Burden of Disease Study found that Britain is 14 out of 19 Western countries for life expectancy.
