Emily Cole 1985-2004

Issue No. 1925

PORTSMOUTH SWP members were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Emily Cole after a year-long battle against cancer.

Emily joined the SWP during the firefighters’ dispute and the stop the war movement when she was just 17.

Always quick to offer an ironic take on Bush and Blair, and vociferous in her defence of asylum seekers, she was keen to hear of the success in building the local Unite Against Fascism group.

Although she could be painfully shy, her desire to fight injustice, racism, the Nazi BNP and the system—as well as her abilities as an artist and photographer—serve both as tribute and inspiration.
