Respect in Wales

RESPECT: THE Unity Coalition has been arguing for political groups to the left of Labour in Wales to unite for the Euro elections. We firmly believed that we needed a single slate to maximise the left and progressive vote.

We had reached provisional agreement over this with John Marek and Forward Wales-indeed John Marek told a meeting of over 200 in Cardiff that this was his hope. Unfortunately first the Green Party and now Forward Wales have abandoned this plan. Forward Wales have told us last week that they want to use the European election to raise their own profile.

Respect: The Unity Coalition will therefore be contesting these elections with the candidates we selected two weeks ago. One of the candidates, Huw Williams, says, 'This is a disappointment but we did everything we could to promote a joint slate.'

The candidates for the Wales constituency at the Euro elections are Helen Griffin, Huw Williams, Raja Gul Raiz and Taran O'Sullivan.
