Reject poor pay deal in Scotland

Issue No. 2345

The Unison union is recommending that local government workers in Scotland reject a below-inflation pay offer of 1 percent.

The offer is less than half the rate of inflation and follows a two-year pay freeze.

A postal ballot on the offer will begin on Friday of this week and end on 11 April.

Delegates from Unison branches in Scotland met on Friday of last week.

Brenda Aitchison from Renfrewshire said, “Things are getting worse on our watch. We need to reclaim our power.”

If Unison members reject the offer, they will be committing to taking industrial action.

The Unite union has asked its local government members in Scotland to reject the offer too.

The GMB union has made no recommendation.
