No government formed in Italy

Italy’s ruling class is in disarray.

The most recent negotiations to form a government have failed to reach a conclusion after last month’s elections. 

The populist Five Star Movement, which won 123 seats in parliament last month, is already facing difficulties.

Former comedian Beppe Grillo, the party’s leader, told MPs not to vote for the speakers of the lower and upper houses. 

But some did—prompting accusations of betrayal from Grillo.
