Job centre staff walk out

Issue No. 2347

Thousands of civil service workers were set to walk out on Friday of this week as part of the PCS union’s rolling industrial action.

The strike is to begin at 1pm for many of the workers who struck on 20 March. These include jobcentre staff, and workers in most government departments.

HM Revenue & Customs workers are to strike on the following Monday morning instead.

The union says this is designed to target the introduction of new software at the tax office.

Friday marks the end of the tax year. It’s the day that pension contributions increase for many PCS members as part of the government’s programme of attacks and cuts on public sector workers.

The strike is also against an ongoing below inflation pay deal which has wiped out a sixth of workers’ wages in five years.

Strikers also oppose attacks on their terms and conditions, including union rep facility time.
