Hillsborough remembered 24 years on

Issue No. 2349

Thousands of people attended a memorial service at Liverpool FC’s ground to mark the 24th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster on Monday of this week.

A crush at the Hillsborough stadium in Sheffield in 1989 led to the deaths of 96 Liverpool fans. Police viewed desperate fans trying to escape as a pitch invasion and pushed them back.

Police, politicians and media then conspired to cover up the role of the police in the disaster. Campaigners are still fighting for truth and justice.
