Ten million people lose part of their council tax benefits in the same week as the cap comes in. This will also hit London hardest due to higher housing costs.
“We’ve lived in our home for 15 years,” said Selver from Haringey’s Chettle Court council estate. "Now we’ve had a letter telling us we’ll have to move.
“Otherwise we have to pay £20 a week for the extra bedroom, and we’re losing our council tax benefit.
“My husband is mentally ill, but he knows the place and the neighbours know him. In another house I don’t know what will happen to him.
“If we were working it might not be so bad, but there are no jobs.
“Since my son finished university he has gone everywhere with his CV. But he has only got two days’ work a week.”
