Michael Gove's battle with reality

Issue No. 2351

Just last week Gove refused to rule out a school closure in the north east of England if a free school opens.

The Ingleby Manor Free School will have 900 places and could create hundreds of surplus places. Stockton North MP Alex Cunningham asked Gove what would happen if the school drained students from local secondary schools.

Gove refused to answer. Instead he made the unlikely claim that on a recent visit to the area, “People were saying to me ‘if only there were more Conservatives in the north east’.”
