Walid from Homs, Syria, fled to Greece to escape war. "I wasn’t part of the uprising in Syria, I just stayed in my house," he told Socialist Worker.
"But this one day I came home and my house was gone. There had been a bomb and my whole family was killed.
"I managed to get out through Turkey. If the police in Syria had seen me they could have shot me.
I thought Europe would be the best place to get to."
