Teaching unions rally against Tories

Issue No. 2352

Teachers were set to rally in Birmingham and Leeds on Saturday of this week.

The rallies are part of a campaign by the NUT and NASUWT unions. They follow rallies of 500 in Liverpool and 700 in Manchester.

Tory education secretary Michael Gove wants to rip up teachers’ pay structure and attack their terms and conditions.

The unions have called a strike in the north west of England for 27 June. They say further strikes will follow, including a national walkout before Christmas.
