RAIL WORKERS in the RMT union on First Great Eastern have voted by four to one for strikes over pay. The strikes have been set for 17 March and 31 March after the company refused to treat all grades of its workers equally.
First Great Eastern's offer would mean some workers would get more than twice as much as the 3.5 percent increase that has been offered to others. The announcement of strike dates came as 4,000 guards on 15 rail companies balloted for strikes to defend their crucial safety role. Their ballot result was due on Thursday of this week.
