The first London Radical Bookfair took place in Conway Hall in London last Saturday. It was organised by the Alliance of Radical Booksellers, formed two years ago to bring together bookshops such as Housmans, Bookmarks and News from Nowhere, as well as radical publishers.

The bookfair was a great success—the hall was packed with stalls from socialist, anarchist and other radical booksellers and publishers.

The fair ended with the announcement of the Bread and Roses Prize for Radical Publishing. Shortlisted books included Dan Swain’s Alienation (Bookmarks) and Donny Gluckstein’s A People’s History of the Second World War (Pluto).

The winner was Hsiao-Hung Pai for her book Scattered Sand: The Story of China’s Rural Migrants (Verso).

The organisers are already looking for a bigger venue for next year.
