Firms grab rights to human biology

Issue No. 2355

US biotechnology company Auxogyn has been granted a patent for basic information about human cells. The data comes from research into IVF treatments.

It follows Myriad Genetics obtaining a patent for DNA sequences in two human genes relating to breast cancer research. Its research took place in public universities.
