Unite votes to retain political fund

Issue No. 2355

Unite members have voted to retain the union’s political fund. Of those voting, 87.4 percent wanted to keep the fund. The turnout was 18.6 percent of the union’s 1.3 million members.

Tory anti-union laws forced the union to hold the ballot. Workers should be able to spend their money on political campaigning.

But Unite would be better off if it used it’s money on campaigns for its members rather than unconditional support for the Labour Party.
