Council workers protest in South Gloucestershire

by Huw Williams, South Gloucestershire Unison Branch Secretary
Issue No. 2355

Around 200 workers in the Unison and Unite unions from South Gloucestershire council protested last week against attacks on their conditions.

The change would hit 800, mostly low-paid, workers.

The noisy protest received fantastic support from other trade unionists in the Bristol area. Banners were visible from Unison, Unite Health and the NUT. Speakers included Chris Taylor from the FBU and Pam Ward a local midwife.

Activists are planning a joint union meeting to discuss where the campaign goes now.
