The Texan firm behind Camp Bastion

Issue No. 2356

Camp Bastion is the main British base in Afghanistan. It is four miles long and accommodates 28,000 people. It was built in 2006 and is the largest British base built abroad since the Second World War.

Staff at the military base are hired by Texas-based firm Kellogg, Brown and Root (KBR).

KBR was shortlisted for a £1.5 billion contract to run police services in the West Midlands and Surrey last year.

Afghans killed as they slept

Us army staff sergeant Robert Bales has said he will plead guilty to killing 16 Afghan villagers while they slept in March 2012. A further six were wounded.

Most of those killed were children. One man lost 11 family members, including his mother and two year old daughter.

Some eyewitnesses claim that several troops carried out the massacre in Kandahar Province.

Justice now for extradited pair

Babar Ahmad and Talha Ahsan are two British men who are imprisoned as victims of the “war on terror”.

Both were extradited from Britain to the US without ever having the chance to see any of the supposed evidence against them.

They are in the US awaiting trial. Support them at
