Coroner slams press in Lucy Meadows inquest

Issue No. 2356

A coroner has ruled that trans teacher Lucy Meadows killed herself after national newspapers reported her gender reassignment.

Michael Singleton described Daily Mail columnist Richard Littlejohn’s article about her as a “character assassination” that “sought to ridicule and humiliate” her.

Lucy killed herself in March. Over 100 teachers marched in Liverpool in April to remember her.

Singleton said, “Lucy Meadows was not somebody who had thrust herself into the public limelight.

“She was not a celebrity. She had done nothing wrong.

“Her only crime was to be different. And yet the press saw fit to treat her in the way that they did.”
