by Steve Johnston
Issue No. 2357

Some 500 Yorkshire Ambulance Service workers struck again against deskilling and management’s derecognition of the Unite union on Friday of last week.

The workers are also on an overtime ban and are set to strike again next

Saturday. Cars tooted their support and supporters brought sweets and drinks to 25 pickets gathered at Yorkshire Ambulance HQ in Wakefield, west Yorkshire.

Debbie Wilkinson, a paramedic and senior Unite rep told Socialist Worker, “We’re angry about derecognition and frustrated that the trust won’t talk to us at all.

“Private ambulances are answering 999 calls and we have to ask what their skills are—patients are shocked by it.”

There were more picket lines, and demonstrations in Wakefield and Hull.
